Getting social about a senior project

NORWALK — Seniors at St. Paul each had to take part in a community project of their choice. Morgan Baxter, Camille Endsley, Caleb Schwan and Danielle Smith decided to go big or go home. "We decided to paint the social hall," said Schwan, "because we have dances in here usually. We're using it as the lunch room right now. "It wasn't painted for a long time. It was looking really rough and we thought it would be a good way to give back to the school." The students were asked what the Social Hall and the project means to them. "It's not only a school building," Baxter said, "the community and the church use it too." "Giving back to the church and the school and just the community in general in a way that you can visually see; it brightens people's day. That was why we wanted to do it." Smith said, "For me, this building is not only used by our school but also our church and community. Those people do so much for us and I just feel like this was a good way to give something back to them. "It was a huge difference," Smith added. "People have told us they didn't even know this building was here, and when we painted it they were like 'woah, there's a building in there?' So, it's just kind of cool." "Something I noticed is that once we finished painting this building the house next door got repainted, the building across the street got painted and it just brightened the neighborhood up a little," Schwan said. Not only are these students doing something great for their community, but after high school they are all attending college. Endsley plans to attend Ohio State this coming fall. She is currently undecided on a major, but the possibilities are endless. Schwan will attend Gannon University for pre-optometry and a major in biology. Baxter will be at the University of Findlay majoring in animal science pre vet. Smith plans to attend BGSU Firelands for technology radiology. The four students wanted to thank Sherwin Williams and everyone else who donated to help accomplish the project.
