Edison High School's National Honor Society chapter recently inducted 43 new members

MILAN — Edison High School's National Honor Society chapter recently inducted 43 new members to active service and honored 35 graduating members of the class of 2021. During the ceremony, student speakers talked on the pillars of National Honor Society, like scholarship, leadership, character and service. Senior Mikyla Myers spoke on how scholarship has impacted her class, even in the midst of the changes caused by the coronavirus and the "senioritis" that's setting in as they near graduation. Speaking on leadership, Senior Jayla Medina noted how leaders have influence on those around them and how leadership requires selflessness and flexibility. Senior Mallory Stiles emphasized how this group of students has found new ways to offer service to the community with the current restrictions that are in place. Each new inductee was then able to light a candle from the candle and life and president Kately Chenevey was able to congratulate them on their accomplishments and induct them as official NHS members. The senior members received their honor cords and after senior Anna James gave a parent thank you speech, the seniors showed their appreciation to their loved ones. Collectively, students completed more than 480 hours of service to the community this past year. In addition to this individual service, the senior class took on a group service project of painting walls at Edison High School. They saw a need for brightening up the classrooms they spend their time in each day. The seniors then spent more than 70 hours, most of that time over spring break, painting 10 different classrooms to give both the teachers and students a more appealing environment to work and learn in. This was on top of the many other projects that they took on individually and the many other activities that this exemplary group participates in.
