Huron County Public Health COVID-19 weekly update

NORWALK — Huron County Public Health is continuing to administer Moderna and Pfizer vaccine as it receives allocations. HCPH has openings for appointments and invites Huron County residents aged 16+* who are interested in receiving the vaccine to schedule an appointment at HCPH by calling 419-668-1652 ext. 241 or book an appointment using our online scheduling tool at: https://bit.ly/3xxHh3O *Notice: Pfizer is the only vaccine currently authorized for those 16 and 17 years of age; Moderna and Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) are currently only authorized for ages 18 and up. Huron County resident vaccination data Although the 80+ and 70-79 age groups both exceed 70 percent of each age group with at least one dose, vaccinations of younger age groups are lagging, with less than 10 percent of the 20–29-year-old age group being fully vaccinated. As Gov. Mike DeWine has reported, more contagious variants are spreading in Ohio. HCPH would like to continue to encourage those who have been considering the vaccine to get vaccinated now; the sooner you receive your vaccination, the sooner you will be able to achieve earlier protection. It typically takes two weeks after you are fully vaccinated for the body to build immunity against COVID-19. HCPH also reminds residents to continue to use reputable sources for information about COVID-19 vaccines, including www.huroncohealth.com, www.coronavirus.ohio.gov and www.cdc.gov. Note: currently authorized Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines require 2 shots to get the most protection, which are given either 21 or 28 days apart, while the Johnson & Johnson vaccine only requires a single-dose shot.
