SOFTBALL: Norwalk, St. Paul cruise to big victories

SANDUSKY — The Norwalk softball team broke out the bats in a big way on Friday. The Truckers scored 28 runs on 31 hits in just five innings of play in an SBC Lake Division game at Sandusky, as they cruised to a 28-8 win. With the victory, Norwalk improved to 7-10 overall and 6-3 in the league. The Truckers finished with four players who had four hits or more, led by senior Alex Nolan, who was 6 for 6 with three doubles, four RBIs and three runs scored. Morgan Leber was 4 for 6 with a home run, three RBIs and four runs, while Haley Gockstetter was 4 for 6 with two RBIs and Cossondra Shinski was 4 for 6 with four RBIs. Sophia Bores finished 3 for 4 with two RBIs for the Truckers, while Meadow Muratori was 2 for 6 with a double and three RBIs. Mckenna Ames was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Emily Skeel was 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI, and Callie Helton was 2 for 4 and scored twice. Hailee Smith and Tyra Corbin each added a hit and an RBI. Gockstetter pitched all five innings in the circle for Norwalk, which hosts Vermilion on Monday. She allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits with eight strikeouts and no walks. St. Peter's 1 NORWALK — The Lady Flyers won for a ninth time in their last 10 games with Friday's non-league rout over the visiting Spartans at Norwalk Area Contractors Park. St. Paul (11-11) scored its 26 runs on 20 hits, led by Presley Stang, who hit for the cycle in the win. Stang finished 4 for 5 with a single, double, triple and a home run while driving in two runs and scoring five times. Klaire Hickey was 4 for 5 with two doubles, a triple and three RBIs, while Aubrey Penner and Sammy Lippert each finished with two hits that included a double and two RBIs. Also for St. Paul, Marlaina Sowers was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and scored four runs, and Mara Lesch was 2 for 4 and drove in two runs.
