St. Paul's Adelman nominated for MaxPreps award

NORWALK — St. Paul senior baseball standout Scotty Adelman was nominated for the MaxPreps Ohio High School Athlete of the Week award, it was announced on Monday.Last week, Adelman threw two complete games in victories at New London on April 19 and at Western Reserve on April 23. In the 4-1 win at New London, Adelman finished with 15 strikeouts and two walks while allowing an unearned run on two hits in seven innings. In a 6-3 win at Western, Adelman yielded three earned runs on four hits with 14 strikeouts to just one walk in seven innings — while pitching on short rest. Entering Tuesday's game at Mapleton, Adelman was 5-1 with a 1.59 ERA to go with 64 strikeouts and 14 walks in 35 1/3 innings.Adelman also leads the Flyers on offense, as he carries a .468 batting average with 15 RBIs while scoring 24 runs and adding 33 stolen bases.The Athlete of the Week awards are decided by a vote of fans. Voting is live at maxpreps.com and will conclude at noon May 3. There is no maximum number of times a person is allowed to vote. The winners will be announced May 4. WR grad Buckhannon is OAC Athlete of the WeekAUSTINTOWN — Baldwin Wallace University senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC thrower Brooke Buckhannon, a 2016 Western Reserve graduate, again earned OAC Women's Track and Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors. Buckhannon was honored for the third time this season and the sixth of her career with the award.At the Monica Scott Invitational on Saturday, Buckhannon swept both the discus throw and the hammer throw events. The senior tossed a season-best mark of 135-feet-1 inch to win the discus and also posted a distance of 170-feet-6 to claim the hammer throw. Buckhannon's discus mark currently ranks 29th nationally. BW will host the OAC Tune-Up on Friday inside George Finnie Stadium in Berea.
