SOFTBALL: St. Paul outlasts Western for seventh straight win

COLLINS — The St. Paul softball team won its seventh straight game on Friday, outscoring host Western Reserve by a 15-8 final score in a Firelands Conference matchup. With the win, the Lady Flyers improved to 9-10 overall and 4-4 in the FC. Marlaina Sowers led a 14-hit effort for St. Paul, as she was 3 for 3 with three doubles, two RBIs and four runs scored. Ava Caizzo tripled and drove in four runs, while Mara Lesch was 2 for 5 with two RBIs and Josalyn Vazquez also added two hits and an RBI. Morgan Baxter tripled, had an RBI and scored three times, while Aubrey Penner also singled and had an RBI. Also for St. Paul, Alaina Takacs singled and scored three times, Molly Ridge and Amelia Rospert each singled, and Sammy Lippert had two RBIs and scored twice. In the circle, Baxter started and went the first 4 2/3 innings. She allowed eight runs (four earned) on three hits with three strikeouts. Rospert pitched the final 2 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Western fell to 0-14 overall and 0-7 in the FC. Crestview 11, South Central 0 GREENWICH — The Trojans were held to a pair of singles from Kailee Beaver and Ellysia Driver in Friday's home FC loss to the visiting Cougars (14-3, 7-0). Laila Rollin had two of the hits, for New London, which fell to 0-14 (0-8). Lilly Raymond had the team's lone RBI and Emilee Rowland took the loss in the circle. River Valley 3, Monroeville 0 MONROEVILLE — The Eagles fell to 11-2 overall following Friday's non-conference shutout loss to visiting River Valley (13-4) at Clark Park. Callie Rosser tripled and Abbi Poths and Brooklyn Schaffer each singled in the defeat for the Eagles. In the circle, Peyton Scheid allowed three earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts and one walk in seven innings of work.
