BASEBALL: New London's Girton blanks Monroeville

NEW LONDON — The Wildcats used a six-run third inning en route to a 11-0 win in five innings over visiting Monroeville in a Firelands Conference game on Friday at New London High School. With the win, the Wildcats improved to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the FC, while the Eagles fell to 0-9 (0-4). Logan Girton paced New London on Friday with five scoreless innings on the mound. He allowed just two hits — a pair of singles by Meritt Key and Austin Nichols — and struck out eight batters with three walks. Jacob Shaver was 2 for 3 and scored twice for the 'Cats, while Hayden Liss and Carter Downs each singled and drove in two runs. Matt Jarvis singled and had an RBI, while Cody Bentley walked and also drove in a pair of runs. Key also walked twice and was on base three times for the Eagles. Ashton Ames and Austin Adelman singled in the first, then scored on a pair of RBI groundouts from Jake Cok and E. Rodriguez. The only other hit from there, however, was a double by Cok in the fourth inning. Luke Bissell was 2 for 3 with a double and scored one of Edison's two runs. Bryce Michaelis added two hits, Clint Finnen added one, and Brady Barker and Connor Betts had RBIs. Keegan Smith went the first four innings for Edison, allowing two runs on three hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Ben Bates pitched the final two innings. He allowed four runs on three hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
