Willard rallies past Norwalk

WILLARD — The Willard softball team scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a walk-off, comeback victory over visiting Norwalk on Friday in a non-league game at the Dean Ave. Complex. Norwalk (1-9) led 6-1 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Crimson Flashes (5-5) plated four runs to pull within 6-5. Macey Robinson started the bottom of the seventh with a single, and Kalli Sowers followed with a walk off Cossondra Shinski to put two runners on with no outs. Kaylee Davis then followed with a single to load the bases. Norwalk then got the out it needed with a force out at home off the bat of Ellen Fox, but Natalie Rothhaar followed with a single to left, and both Sowers and Davis were ahead of the throw home to score the game-winning runs for the Flashes. Robinson was 2 for 4 for Willard, while Rothhaar, Savannah Rodriguez and Olivia Whetstone each singled and had two RBIs. Ashley Hamons added a single. Davis went all seven innings in the circle for the Flashes, allowing six runs (one earned) on 10 hits with seven strikeouts and two walks. For Norwalk, Meadow Muratori was 3 for 4 and scored twice, while Haley Gockstetter was 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs. Callie Helton was 2 for 4, while Tyra Corbin, Morgan Leber and Sophia Bores each singles. Shinski allowed six runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and three walks in her 6 1/3 innings of work. Firelands led 6-2 after the top of the fourth inning, but Edison scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth, and six runs in the bottom of the sixth. Olivia Vitaz finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs for Edison, while Deana Blatnik was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and both Audrey Linder and Kayla Mancuso were 2 for 4 with an RBI. Mallory Perkins added a double and two RBIs, Kalli Quillen singled with two RBIs, and Sophia Guerra had a single and an RBI. Kira Appen pitched all seven innings in the circle for Edison. She allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits with 10 strikeouts and three walks.
