Norwalk blasts Perkins for first win

NORWALK — The Norwalk softball team let out its frustration with 15 runs on 16 hits to pick up its first win of the season on Wednesday. The Truckers (1-7, 1-2) scored five runs in each of the first two innings and cruised from there in a 15-3 win in five innings over visiting Perkins in an SBC Lake Division matchup. All nine players in the starting lineup had at least one hit, and eight of the nine scored at least one run in the win for the Truckers. Sophomore Morgan Leber was 3 for 3 and scored three runs for Norwalk, while Hayleigh Mills was 2 for 2 with a double, a sacrifice fly and four RBIs. Freshman McKenna Ames was 2 for 3 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. Also for the Truckers, Cossondra Shinksi was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Meadow Muratori was 2 for 4 with two runs, and Sophia Bores was 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Tyra Corbin singled and had two RBIs, while Callie Helton singled and scored, and Haley Gocksetter singled with an RBI and scored twice. In the circle, Gockstetter pitched all five innings for the win — the first in the career for the freshman. She allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits with 11 strikeouts and one walk. Kira Appeman was 2 for 2 with two doubles and three RBIs for Edison. She also threw the first four innings to pick up the win, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Also for Edison (5-1, 2-0 Bay), Kayla Mancuso was 3 for 3 with a triple, three RBIs and scored four times. Deana Blatnik was 2 for 3 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored, while twin sibling Danielle Blatnik was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Mallory Perkins had two hits and scored twice, Kalli Quillen had two hits with an RBI, and Reagan King doubled and drove in two runs for the Chargers. For Willard (4-4, 1-1), Kalli Sowers was 2 for 3 with a run scored, while Ashley Hamons and Kelcey DeWitt each added a single and an RBI. Olivia Whetstone had the fifth hit for the Flashes.
