Norwalk tops Clyde for SBC Lake win

NORWALK — The Norwalk baseball team picked up another SBC Lake Division win on Monday with a 5-1 win over visiting Clyde. The Truckers (4-2, 2-0) got base hits from seven different players and a strong outing on the mound by Ian Minor to control the win over the Fliers. In the bottom of the second inning, Andrew Bundschuh connected for a two-out single to right field to score Caleb Sommers and Isaac Scheel, who had both reached on a walk and a hit-by-pitch, respectively. The Truckers added a run in the third when Minor was hit by a pitch, then advanced to second on a single by Sommers, and scored on a bunt single by Scheel after he had reached third on an error. After the Fliers cut the deficit to 3-1 after the top of the fifth on an unearned run, the Truckers came back with two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth. Brayson Malson singled and was pinch ran for by Evan Gaston. Bundschuh followed with a single, and both runners moved into scoring position on a fielding error. That allowed Sam Battles to put down a bunt single to score Gaston, then a bases loaded walk two batters later from Nate Adelman extended the lead to 5-1. Bundschuh finished 2 for 3 with the two RBIs and a run scored, while Eli Obringer was 2 for 3. Adelman also singled for the Truckers, who were playing the first of five scheduled games this week. Minor allowed just an unearned run on five hits in six innings of work. He threw 91 pitches, and struck out nine batters with one walk. Thomas Gfell pitched a scoreless seventh on 11 pitches with one strikeout. Norwalk has another key SBC Lake home game on Wednesday when it hosts Perkins.
