Monroeville's Scheid throws five-inning perfect game

MONROEVILLE — Payton Scheid was perfect for the Monroeville softball team in Monday's five-inning rout over visiting Fremont St. Joseph at Clark Park. Scheid retired all 15 batters she faced, striking out 13 of them, en route to her perfect game. She also struck out 13 on March 27 in a win at Norwalk. Scheid more than helped her cause offensively as well, as she was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and scored twice for the Eagles (3-0). Abbi Poths was 3 for 3 with two RBIs and Adelynn Kradlak was 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run for Monroeville. Emily Kradlak added two hits and three RBIs, while Callie Rosser had two hits and scored three times for Monroeville. Fre. Appeman allowed one hit in five shutout innings while striking out 12 for the Chargers. Macey Robinson, Kaylee Davis, Ellen Fox and Olivia Whetstone each singled for Willard (2-1), with Fox driving in the team's lone run. Morgan Baxter was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for St. Paul (1-1), while Presley Stang was 2 for 3 with a triple and two runs scored. Sammy Lippert added a double and Elena Penner singled. Baxter pitched the first three innings, allowing five runs on five hits with four strikeouts and six walks. Amelia Rospert pitched the final three scoreless innings with six strikeouts and no walks. Willard 8, New London 7 WILLARD — The Crimson Flashes opened the season with a pair of identical 8-7 walk-off wins over visiting New London on Saturday at the Dean Ave. Complex. Tied at 7-7 after seven innings, Willard's Ashley Hamons singled to lead off the bottom of the ninth. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lauren Hall, then scored after advancing to third on a passed ball and touching home on a base hit by Olivia Whetstone. Kalli Sowers was 3 for 3 with a pair of home runs, two RBIs and three runs scored in the win for the Flashes. Kaylee Davis had two hits and two RBIs, while Whetstone also had three hits and drove in two runs. Hamons also added two hits, as did Macey Robinson. In Game 2, Savannah Rodriguez opened the seventh with a single and Jada Deel pinch ran for her. Hall put down another sacrifice bunt, but both runners were safe on a fielding error. With Whetstone batting, a fielder's choice then brought Deel home for the winning run. Ellen Fox was 3 for 4 with three RBIs in the win, with Sowers and Hall each adding two hits.
