Norwalk's Chapin voted SBC Lake's top player

For the second time in three years, the Norwalk boys basketball program boasts the top player in the Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division. Senior forward Garrett Chapin was selected as the Most Outstanding Performer for the big-school division, the league announced on Monday. Chapin averaged 14.4 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game during the regular season for the Truckers (14-8, 10-2), who shared the league championship with Tiffin Columbian (18-4, 10-2). A four-year starter, Chapin is fifth in career points (1,179) and first in career rebounds (840) entering the tournament. An NCAA Division III Ohio Northern University commit, Chapin is also a four-time SBC Lake selection, including twice on the first team. Joining Chapin on the first team was senior guard Will Gehlhausen, who leads the Truckers in scoring at 15.5 points per contest. He adds 3.9 assists, 2.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Chapin finished second in rebounding, sixth in scoring and seventh in assists among the league leaders this season. Gehlhausen was fourth in scoring, eighth in steals and 10th in assists. Also for Norwalk, junior Ian Minor (9.4 points, 5.3 rebounds) was selected to the honorable mention list. He led the league in blocks with two per game. Norwalk was scheduled to host Galion (0-21) in a Division II sectional semifinal on Tuesday. With a win, the No. 4-seeded Truckers would host Upper Sandusky (14-8) in Friday's sectional title game in the Ashland district. Brandon Haraway also was named the Lake Division's top player for the 2018-19 season.
