Nine area players earn OHSBCA first team District 6 honors

Nine area players received first team recognition by the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association District 6, which was voted on by the coaches on Feb. 14. In Division II, a pair of Norwalk seniors who helped the Truckers (14-8, 10-2) to a share of the SBC Lake Division championship earned a spot on the first team. Garrett Chapin averaged 14.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists during the regular season for the Truckers, and was the third-leading vote-getter in the division. He was joined on the first team by classmate Will Gehlhausen, who averaged 15.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Junior Ian Minor was honorable mention for Norwalk, which hosts Galion (0-21) on Tuesday in a sectional semifinal. Shelby's TJ Pugh was the Player of the Year, and Scott McVeigh (Perkins) was the Coach of the Year in the district. DIVISION III Western's Rowlinson selected POY Standout Western Reserve senior Luke Rowlinson was selected as the Player of the Year for District 6 in Div. III. Rowlinson led the area in scoring at 24.2 points per game. He also added 5.9 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game for the Roughriders (17-2), who went a perfect 14-0 en route to their fourth straight Firelands Conference championship. He was joined on the first team by classmate John Skrada, who averaged 16.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists during the regular season for the 'Riders. Also making first team was Willard senior Myles Pinkson. The forward averaged 14 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.8 steals in helping lead the Crimson Flashes (16-5, 10-2) to the SBC Bay Division championship. Second team honors included Willard junior Trey Paxton (16.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists) and Western Reserve junior Jude Muenz (8.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.9 steals). Earning honorable mention was Willard senior Austin Adelman and Edison senior Lincoln Meredith. The Co-Coaches of the Year in Div. III were siblings Chris Sheldon (Western Reserve) and David Sheldon (Colonel Crawford). Chris Sheldon won his 300th game — all at Western Reserve — in the regular season finale at New London on Feb. 15. The 'Riders are the No. 2 seed in the Shelby district behind No. 1 Crawford, who edged Western by four (43-39) on Nov. 28 in North Robinson. DIVISION IV Four from FC earn first team The Firelands Conference was well-represented in Div. IV by players from three teams that won 12-to-15 games each this season. St. Paul senior twin siblings Nick and Nate Winslow, along with South Central senior David Lamoreaux and Monroeville junior Isaac Roeder were each voted to the first team. Nick Winslow was the second-leading vote-getter in the district. He averaged 21.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.5 steals per game for the Flyers (15-5) during the regular season. Lamoreaux averaged 17.3 points and 9.8 rebounds per game for the Trojans (15-6), while Roeder averaged 20.8 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.2 steals per contest. Rounding out the quartet, Nate Winslow averaged 14.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.4 steals per game. Second team selections included New London senior Grant Heileman (20.2 points), St. Paul senior Scotty Adelman (11.9 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists) and South Central senior Jackson McCormack (10.9 points, 4.8 rebounds). Honorable mention selections from the area included Plymouth junior Zeth Goth, New London senior Jacob Shaver, South Central junior Sam Seidel and Monroeville senior Trevor Schafer. Old Fort's Colin Nutter was the Player of the Year and Tiffin Calvert's Jon Otterbacher was the Coach of the Year for the division.
