BOYS HOOPS: St. Paul tops Plymouth fifth straight; Trojans top Eagles

NORWALK — The St. Paul boys basketball team outscored host Plymouth by 15 points at the free throw line in Friday's 69-59 win in the Firelands Conference finale for both teams. The Flyers, who close out the regular season at 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon vs. Margaretta (14-7), improved to 14-5 overall and finish 10-4 in the FC, tied for second place with South Central. Nick Winslow was 13-of-19 shooting at the free-throw line en route to a game-high 25 points for St. Paul. Scotty Adelman made three 3-pointers and scored 18 points, while Adam Baker made a pair of 3s and had 12 points. After hosting the Polar Bears, the Flyers have a first-round bye in Division IV sectional action. They await the Crestline-New London winner at 7 p.m. Friday in Norwalk. Zeth Goth paced Plymouth (5-17, 3-11) with 17 points. He was followed by Josh Beebe with 11 and Gavin Bishop with 10 points. Plymouth will visit Monroeville on Wednesday in a Div. IV sectional semifinal, with the winner advancing to travel to Margaretta on Friday. ST. South Central (15-6, 10-4) outscored the Eagles (12-9, 7-7) by a 27-20 margin in the third quarter and 19-15 in the fourth quarter. Jackson McCormack led all scorers with 31 points for the Trojans, as he connected on five 3-pointers. He was followed by David lamoreaux with 20 points, while Kayden Hauler also made three 3s and added nine points. For Monroeville, Jimmy Clingman scored 25 points, with Isaac Roeder and Trevor Schafer each adding 13 points. The Eagles host Plymouth on Wednesday in sectional tournament action. As the top seed in the Willard district, the Trojans have a first-round bye and will host the Mansfield Christian-Buckeye Central winner at 7 p.m. Friday in a sectional title game.
