Four area girls players earn OHSBCA District 6 first team honors

The voting for the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association District 6 girls teams was held on Sunday. Four area players earned first team honors in Divisions III and IV. In Div. III, Willard senior Mckenna Stephens earned a spot on the first team after helping the Crimson Flashes (18-3) to a share of the SBC Bay Division championship, as well as a top 10 state ranking and the No. 1 seed at the Shelby district, which begins this Saturday. Stephens averaged 15.4 points and 7.9 rebounds per game for Willard, which finished with the No. 7 ranking in the final Associated Press state poll. Joining Stephens on the first team in Div. III was Edison senior guard Aliyah Caporini. A 1,000-point scorer for the Chargers (13-8), Caporini averaged 15.8 points, 9.2 rebounds, 5.3 steals and 2.6 assists per game during the regular season. Willard head coach Barry Pfahl, who earlier this season earned his 300th coaching win, was selected as the Coach of the Year in Div. III. In Div. IV, a pair of St. Paul seniors that helped the Lady Flyers (16-4) to a share of the Firelands Conference championship also earned first team. Senior Danielle Smith, also a 1,000-point scorer, and Camille Endsley earned the spots for St. Paul. Smith averaged 11 points, 2.8 assists and 3.5 steals per game this season, while Endsley averaged 14.3 points and 4.4 steals per contest. Earning second team honors from the area included Norwalk senior Elena Barber in Div. II, Willard seniors Layla Dials and Presley Feltner in Div. III, and New London senior Kiaya Thierry and South Central sophomore Kennedy Deppen in Div. IV. Barber averaged 10.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per game for the Truckers (10-9) this season. Dials averaged 12.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and five assists per game for Willard, while Feltner added 11.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per contest. Thierry led the FC in scoring at 15.2 points per game, while Deppen averaged 10.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 3.6 steals per game for the Trojans. Honorable mention players from the area included Western Reserve's Izzi Duchette, Western Reserve and Ellie Blankenship, and Willard's Kalli Sowers in Div. III. In Div. IV, honorable mention selections included Monroeville's Payton Scheid and Braylee Wise, St. Paul's Maddy McCall and Morgan Baxter, South Central's Kendyl Beverly and Grace Lamoreaux, and Plymouth's Erin Stevens.
