Pavers on sale in Milan

MILAN — The village of Milan boasts a number of extraordinary historical monuments, sculptures and museums that are representative of its great history. The most recent addition has been Ohio's 72nd Blue Star Memorial marker in Milan's village square. The Blue Star Memorial Marker Program was originally developed in 1945 by the National Garden Clubs, Inc. to pay tribute to the Armed Forces that defended our country during World War II. The program has remained active through the years and has been expanded to include all men and women who had served, were serving or would serve in the armed services of the United States. The Milan Garden Club, in cooperation with the village of Milan and Garden Club of Ohio, Inc. took on this project to display a visible reminder of our love of gardening and our support for the Armed Forces of the USA. Named "Veteran's Plaza," the patriotic display spans a wedge-shaped area where two sidewalks converge. A large American flag waves overhead. The garden club's plan called for a dedicated terrace lined with pavers inscribed with local veterans' names. The pavers are in place and there are still a number of blank pavers ready for inscription. This is a great opportunity to honor a veteran in your family or among your circle of friends. Pavers are available in two sizes — 6 by 12 (4 lines) for $110 and 6 by 6 (3 lines) for $65. Forms are available at the Milan Public Library, the Coffee Station and Jim's Pizza Box.
