Military banners in New London

NEW LONDON — Those driving or walking through the village probably notice the large number of military tribute banners hanging above the streets. This project was organized by the group Inspire New London, and the banners, which are $150 each, include a photo, name, years of service and branch of military service. Seven American-made commercial-grade flags and poles will be set in concrete. The US flag will be in the center, flanked by the service flags of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard and the POW/MIA flag. Names of service members being honored will be engraved at the base. Send donor's name, address and a minimum of $25 to Friends of Grove St. Cemetery, Village of New London, 115 East Main St., New London OH 44851. Include name of veteran to be honored, branch of service and war or dates of service. The project continues to September, 2021, when the anniversary of 911 will be commemorated with the help of Inspire New London.
