How readers are giving thanks

NORWALK — This year Thanksgiving might look a little different compared to previous years with a pandemic and curfew. Despite the changes that 2020 has brought, there's a lot to be thankful for. The Reflector asked readers through social media how they were planning on celebrating their holiday. Jan Arbogast-Miller said she planned to spend Thanksgiving with her children and grandchildren. Normally, she would go to dinner at her mother's with over 60 family members. "I'm looking forward to cooking the entire meal," she said in her post. Norwalk Mayor Dave Light said his Thanksgiving celebrations are scaled back this year. "We have people who are concerned about the coronavirus who are just going to stay home but we're still doing the 25-pound turkey," Light said. "It'll just be immediate close family. We're scaling back a lot this year because that's just the smart thing to do right now." He said previously they've had up to 20 people over for Thanksgiving. The holiday is his second favorite behind Christmas. "Everybody comes to the house and gets together and eats," Light said. "It's just good to see everybody because that's usually the one time a year that we can all get together and spend time." Kelly Francisco-Foos said in her post four members of her family are planning to eat at Gideon Own Wine Company. For Heather Overstreet, she said she'll be working Thanksgiving at the hospital in the lab, testing. Sarah Ann Fannin said she will be having a small Thanksgiving with the people she lives with. "We are too compassionate and empathic to risk the lives of others over a dinner we can celebrate at a later date," she said in her post. "Doing the right thing isn't a hardship for us."
