Highway Patrol investigating fatal crash

ADAMS TOWNSHIP — The Norwalk Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred at 9:15 p.m. Thursday on Ohio 101 in Seneca County. James A. Kear, 54, of Clyde, died in the accident. Kear was driving a 2012 Ford F-150 southwest bound on Ohio 101. Mark A. Myers, 49, of Huron, was driving a 2019 Chevy Suburban northeast bound on Ohio 101. Kear traveled left of the center line and struck Myers head on, according to reports. After impact, Kear's truck came to rest on the west side of Ohio 101 and Myers' SUV came to rest on the east side of Ohio 101. Kear was wearing his seatbelt and sustained fatal injuries as a result. He was transported from the scene by the Seneca County Coroner to Tiffin Mercy Hospital. Meyers was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and had to be extracted from his vehicle by mechanical means. He was flown by Life-Flight to St. Vincent's Hospital in Toledo with critical injuries. Alcohol and or drug usage is undetermined as a factor in the crash which remains under investigation. Assisting on scene were Green Springs Fire Department, Seneca County EMS, North Central EMS, Life-Flight, Ohio Department of Transportation, Seneca County Coroner and Wilcox Towing.
