Monroeville's Brooks named Div. IV District 6 POY

Seven area volleyball players earned All-District 6 first team honors on Monday by the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association. Highlighting area selections was Monroeville senior Kylee Brooks, who was voted the Division IV Player of the Year. Brooks finished her standout senior season with 330 kills in 27 matches for the Eagles. Brooks, who ended her career with 1,045 kills, also had 60 blocks, 231 digs and served 145 points (88 percent) with 27 aces in leading the Eagles to a regional championship match for a third consecutive year. Joining her on the first team in Div. IV were teammates Hannah Lyons and Lydia Landoll. A junior setter, Lyons finished with 915 assists and just 48 set errors in 27 matches while also serving 170 points (96 percent) with 38 aces and 264 digs. A senior hitter, Landoll had 162 kills, 53 blocks and 238 digs. Also earning first team honors in Div. IV was St. Paul junior setter Dyllan Knoll, who had 695 assists with just 18 set errors in 24 matches for the Lady Flyers (18-6). She added 150 points (96 percent) and 37 aces along with 172 digs. Earning second team in Div. IV included Monroeville seniors Braylee Wise and Reece Kluding, St. Paul juniors Josie Skinn and Brooke Houck, and South Central junior Lorin Walcher. Third team choices included Monroeville sophomore Maddie Daniel, junior Graisyn Yoder, and St. Paul junior Presley Stang. New London sophomore Sasha Bowens and freshman Emilee Rowland were honorable mention, as was St. Paul junior Sarah Matlack and South Central senior Kailee Beaver. Monroeville's Kendra Snook earned Coach of the Year honors with Tiffin Calvert's Lori Rombach. Snook guided the Eagles to a 26-1 record, including the program's second straight Firelands Conference championship and a third straight district title and third straight regional final. All athletes will be recognized on Nov. 22 at the Cedar Point Sports Center. Because of restrictions, each athlete is allowed four tickets for the event. DIVISION III Three earn first team Edison senior Lilli Schuster and junior Olivia Vitaz were selected to the first team in Div. III, as was Willard senior Mckenna Stephens. Schuster had 246 kills and 286 digs for the Chargers, while Vitaz added 171 kills, 51 blocks, 529 assists and 252 digs. Stephens finished with 328 kills and 254 digs for the Crimson Flashes. Earning second team honors from the area included Edison junior Kira Appeman and Western Reserve senior Jessa Riley. Third team choices from the area included Edison junior Lydia Woodyard and senior Kayla Mancuso, Willard senior Layla Dials and Western Reserve junior Baylee Ruppert. Western's Haylee Griffith was honorable mention in the division, which voted Huron senior setter Georgi Moody as the Player of the Year. A trio of SBC Bay Division head coaches shared the Coach of the Year honors, which included Huron's Don Wood, a Norwalk graduate, along with Edison's Sean Hoover and Margaretta's Sarah Runs. The Chargers finished 17-7 this season under Hoover while also winning a sectional championship. DIVISION II Norwalk seniors recognized In Div. II, a pair of Norwalk seniors earned spots on the district list. Senior hitter Mya Neuberger was a second team choice, while her classmate, Marie Clouse, was honorable mention. Neuberger finished with 126 kills and 207 digs this season, while Clouse added 126 kills and 20 blocks.
