Four injured in two-vehicle accident

FLORENCE TOWNSHIP — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle, serious injury crash that occurred Tuesday afternoon on Ohio 60 at milepost 5 in Florence Township. Unit No. 1 was traveling south on Ohio 60. Unit No. 2 was traveling north on Ohio 60. Unit No. 1 traveled left of center, striking Unit No. 2. Unit No. 1 continued off the east side of the road and overturned multiple times before coming to final rest. Unit No. 2 came to rest in the middle of the north lane of Ohio 60. A 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, unit No. 1, sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene. James R. Buhl, 56, of Ashland, was the driver of the Silverado. He sustained serious injuries and was taken to Cleveland Metro Hospital by life flight. Buhl was wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash. Unit No. 2: 2014 Nissan Xterra, sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene. Lana D. Born, age 51, of Wakeman, was the driver of the Xterra. Born was wearing her safety belt at the time of the crash. She sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by EMS. Passenger 1 of Unit No. 2: Michael A. Garcia, 28, of Wakeman, was trapped inside the vehicle and was extricated by mechanical means. Garcia was wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash. He sustained serious injuries and was taken to Cleveland Metro Hospital by life flight. Passenger 2 of Unit No. 2: Matthew A. Mair, 31, of Mentor, was wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash. He sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by EMS. Alcohol and/or drugs are believed to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
