Norwalk Middle School teams win third straight invitational

FREMONT — The Norwalk Middle School boys and girls cross country teams came away with more hardware on Oct. 8 as both teams won the Fremont Middle School Invitational at Walsh Park. It marked the third straight week both teams won invitationals, starting with host Norwalk, Old Fort and then Fremont. The boys team won with 35 points among the seven teams and 11 schools competing, well ahead of runners-up Woodmore (71). Casey Kromer led the boys team in second place with a time of 11:43, while Roberto Dominguez was not far behind in sixth in 12:36. Ben Snyder (13:19) placed 12th, Zade Oglesby (13:20) was 14th and Juan Martinez (13:27) was 15th. Rounding out the top seven in what was the boys' top performance of the season to date was Anthony Hall (14:04) in 24th. In the girls race, which also featured seven teams among the 11 schools competing, Norwalk scored 33 points to finish with a sizable margin ahead of second place Edison (69). Zurina Immel was second overall for the Truckers in 13:01, while sibling Xavi Immel was five seconds behind (13:06) in third. Abigail Koenig (13:59) was fifth and Kayli Bergman (14:06) was with. Rounding off the top seven placers for Norwalk was Maddison Trenor (15:18) in 20th, Kaylee Houghtlen (15:23) in 21st and Taryn Temple (16:16) in 37th. Both Norwalk teams will compete for the SBC Lake Division championship at 11:40 a.m. Saturday at Hedges-Boyer Park in Tiffin.
