Early voting for Huron County

NORWALK — Early voting for Huron County will be similar to election day in-person voting, said Cecilia Blevins, executive director of the Huron County Board of Elections. She said voters will be asked to wear masks when they enter the Huron County Administration building. "Voters will park in the rear lot of the building and enter at entrance C and turn right. Early voting will be held in lower level Meeting room A," Blevins said. "Voters will have hand sanitizer available to use and the voting tables will be sanitized throughout the day for the voter and the precinct election official's safety." She said the precinct election officials will also be required to wear masks. Precinct election officials will be wearing masks as well. When voters check-in, there will be a barrier between them and the poll worker. Voters will need a valid form of identification, most commonly used is a driver's license. "Once the voter receives their ballot, we ask that each voter select a marker from the sanitized basket of markers," Blevins said. "When done voting, the voter will take their marker with them when they put their ballot in the scanner." After voting at their individual, socially distancing voting booth, they will remove the ballot stub from the ballot and put the ballot in the scanner and put the stub in a ballot stub bag. Their marker should be placed in the red basket and can receive their "I Voted" sticker. Voters should use the exit at the back of the meeting room if they are able to use the two steps at the rear exit. "The whole voting process from check-in to casting the ballot should not take longer than five minutes. We do ask voters to be patient and to social distance in line if there is a line," Blevins said. Curbside voting will be available is someone is unable to enter the facility to early vote. There will be a sign with the number to call to alert the election official there is a curbside voter. "As a reminder, all early in-person absentee voting, mail-in absentee ballot voting or hand carry absentee ballots are all counted as absentee votes," Blevins said. "The votes that are first reported on election night are all the absentee votes that the board of elections has received throughout the early voting period." Early in-person voting starts at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday. The first week of early voting will be Oct. 6 to Oct. 9, week two will be Oct. 12 to Oct. 16 and the third week will be Oct. 19 to Oct. 25. Voting hours will be 8 am. to 5 p.m. each weekday Monday through Friday. On Saturday, Oct. 24, voting hours will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 25, voting will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. In the fourth week, Oct. 26 to Nov. 1 voting will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Voting hours for Saturday, Oct. 31, will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Voting will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1. Voting will be available from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2.
