VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: St. Paul, Monroeville win again

NORWALK — The St. Paul volleyball team cruised past visiting New London in a Firelands Conference match Thursday as the program hosted its annual "Volley for the Cure" match inside Harvey Keller Gymnasium. St. Paul (10-4, 8-2) — ranked No. 19 in the Division IV state coaches poll — won in three games, 25-7, 25-12 and 25-11. Leading the Lady Flyers Thursday night was Sarah Matlack, who finished with 13 kills and served 11 points and five aces. Brooke Houck, Abbie Stine and Presley Stang each finished with three kills, and Stang added eight digs. Also for St. Paul, Josie Skinn served 17 points with three aces and added nine digs, and Dyllan Knoll finished with 34 assists. For New London (3-15, 1-9), Emilee Rowland finished with five kills, Grace Popa had eight digs and Aerial Hatfield had five assists. In the junior varsity match, St. Paul (12-2, 10-0) won with scores of 25-12, 25-8. St. Paul is back in action next Tuesday at Western Reserve. Monroeville 3, Mapleton 0 MONROEVILLE — The unbeaten Eagles dominated visiting Mapleton in Thursday's FC win. Monroeville (15-0, 10-0) — ranked No. 6 in the Div. IV state poll — won 25-12, 25-11 and 25-9. Graisyn Yoder and Lydia Landoll each had nine kills, while Landoll was 20 for 21 serving with six aces. Kylee Brooks finished with eight kills and three blocks, Hannah Lyons had 31 assists, while Braylee Wise had 10 digs and Madi Clark was 13 for 13 serving with three aces. The Eagles JV team (11-4, 8-2) also won (25-11, 25-11). Crestview 3, W. Reserve 0 OLIVESBURG — The Roughriders fell to 8-6 overall and 7-3 in the FC with Thursday's loss to the host Cougars. Western lost in scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-23. Jesse Riley finished with seven kills, Abery Bomar had four, and Libby Weisenberger had five blocks for Western. Jordan Feaga served six points, while Bomar and Baylee Ruppert each served four, while Ruppert also had 11 assists. Also for the 'Riders, Haley Griffith had 25 digs and Riley added 15. Western won the JV match, with Jade Lang serving 13 points. Perkins 3, Norwalk 0 PERKINS TWP. — The Truckers fell to the state-ranked Pirates in three games in Thursday's SBC Lake Division matchup. Perkins (13-1, 9-0) — ranked No. 14 in the Div. II state poll — won with scores of 25-13, 25-10 and 25-10. For Norwalk (3-13, 2-7), Mya Neuberger had seven kills and 11 digs. Jaylee Tyler had 11 assists, while Harlee Genovesi finished with 26 digs. Huron 3, Edison 0 MILAN — The Chargers fell to 9-6 overall and 3-3 in the SBC Bay Division with Thursday's loss to state powerhouse Huron. Edison lost in scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-23. Olivia Vitaz had 18 assists, 10 digs and two kills for the Chargers, who also got 12 kills and 16 digs from Kira Appeman. Lilli Schuster added eight kills and 11 digs, Kayla Mancuso had 11 digs, and Deana Blatnik had four kills and six digs. The Tigers (13-2) are ranked No. 2 in the Div. III state poll and coached by 1986 Norwalk graduate Don Wood. Willard 3, Port Clinton 0 WILLARD — The Crimson Flashes improved to 7-8 overall and 3-3 in the SBC Bay Division with Thursday's win over Port Clinton. Willard won by scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-14. Leading the Flashes was Mckenna Stephens with 12 kills, eight digs and 12 for 12 serving with three aces. Tristin Buurma had six kills, five digs and was 7 for 7 serving with two aces, while Layla Dials had three kills, nine digs and 11 assists. Also for Willard, Grace Hall was 18 for 20 serving with six aces, and Cassie Hamons was 11 for 13 serving with two aces and added nine assists.
