Norwalk, Willard win SBC Lake and Bay tournament titles

FREMONT — Already ahead two points in the overall standings entering Thursday, the Norwalk boys golf team removed all doubt on Thursday.The Truckers shot a 335 at the SBC Lake Division championships at the Fremont Country Club. That was 15 strokes better than runners-up Perkins, giving Norwalk the league title for a second straight year. It marked the fourth league title over the past six seasons as well for the Truckers, who actually trailed by two shots after the front nine on Thursday. But the top four golfers combined to shot a 158 over the back nine to cruise to the win.On Thursday, Norwalk was led by Ian Minor, who turned in a 41 and a 39 for an 80 total. That was the lowest score among the 43 golfers on Thursday.Minor was followed by teammates Brayson Malson (41-42—83) and Isaac School (47-37—84), while Caleb Sommers was next with a 48-40—88.Rounding out the Norwalk lineup was Eli Obringer (45-46—91) and Andrew Epperley (47-46—103). "The greens were extremely difficult but our guys managed them well," Norwalk coach Wes Douglas said. "We kept the ball on the course and avoided the big numbers for the most part. We are very proud of these guys for replacing five outstanding seniors from last season and again repeating as league champions."After Norwalk and Perkins (350), the rest of the field included Bellevue (357), Clyde (360), Columbian (366), Vermilion (376) and Sandusky (540). Flashes claim Bay Division titleFREMONT — The Willard boys golfers shot a 347 on Thursday, edging out Port Clinton by two strokes to claim the SBC Bay tournament championship.The Crimson Flashes were paced by Dylan Thompson (41-42—83), Max Dawson (41-46—87), Trey Mock (41-47—88) and Micah Dawson (47-42—89). Rounding out the Flashes lineup on Thursday was Bryce Dials (51-45—96) and Brayden Wyant (52-57—109).Huron and Margaretta (356) tied for third, while Oak Harbor shot a 360 and Edison totaled a 401.The Chargers were led by Matthew Pounds (48-45—93). Also scoring for Edison on Thursday was Noah Pulaski (52-49—101), Sean Rhodes (51-52—103), Connor Betts (56-48—104), Lincoln Meredith (51-60—111) and Parker Campbell (55-56—111). GIRLS GOLFBellevue tops Edison, St. PaulCLYDE — The Chargers and Lady Flyers competed with host Bellevue in a tri-match on Thursday at Green HIlls golf course in Clyde.Bellevue finished with a 177, followed by the Chargers (203) and Flyers (212).Edison was led by Lauren Neher (42), Madison Butler (51), Ava Grant (52) and Mallory Meister (58).for St. Paul, Sammy Lippert shot a 51, followed Hannah Wheeler (55), Ava Caizzo (56) and Amelia Rospert (60).
