PREP ROUNDUP: Norwalk's Daniels sets new career goals record

TIFFIN — Just two days after reaching 100 career goals, Norwalk girls soccer junior Nyah Daniels etched per place in program history. Daniels scored all three goals in the Truckers' 3-0 win over Tiffin Columbian on Wednesday, giving her 103 career goals. That tops the old mark of 102, held by Lauren Woods (2000-03). With the win, Norwalk improved to 10-0-1 overall and 6-0 in the SBC Lake Division. The Truckers are 29-0-1 in SBC matches since joining the league in 2017. Daniels also raised her season goal total to 40, which equals her 2019 totals. The 40 goals is unofficially tied for the 19th-most goals scored in a single-season in Ohio girls soccer history. Should Daniels score 10 more times this season, she would move into the top 10 all-time in OHSAA history, while she is also seven goals away from the OHSAA's career goals record book listing. A stern test awaits Norwalk on Saturday, as it travels to Ontario (7-1) to face a Warriors team ranked No. 9 in the Division II state coaches poll. Vermilion 2, Edison 1 VERMILION — The Chargers came up a goal short in a loss to the host Sailors on Wednesday. Abigail Hearing scored the lone goal for the Chargers, who visit Mapleton on Monday. BOYS SOCCER Norwalk 7, Columbian 0 TIFFIN — The Truckers remain alone atop the SBC Lake Division after Wednesday's 7-0 win over the host Tornadoes. Nate LaRoche and Jose Escobedo each scored twice for Norwalk (9-1, 7-0), while Chaz Smith, Gavin Shutt and Erik Rangle-Negrete each scored once. Cam Shoop had two assists, while Spencer Colahan, Escobedo and Negrete each had one. Ethan Tanzillo recorded his fourth shutout with three saves. Norwalk is at Clyde on Monday for a 5 p.m. league match.
