COVID-19 outbreak at Gaymont Care & Rehabilitation

NORWALK — Huron County Public Health is investigating an outbreak of COVID-19 at a long-term care facility. The suspected outbreak location is Gaymont Care & Rehabilitation, located within Norwalk. As of Sept. 22, there were 7 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 6 residents testing positive and 1 staff case, said Melanie Myers, Huron County Public Health (HCPH) public information officer. The confirmed cases were found as a result of routine testing being performed. HCPH began the investigation on Sept. 18 following notification from the facility. Myers said resident and staff testing is ongoing and investigation results are pending. "All positive confirmed cases within the facility have been isolated and staff and residents are being appropriately monitored," she said. Myers said investigating an outbreak at a long-term care facility or nursing home is similar to an outbreak investigation conducted in any other setting or business. HCPH is continuing to conduct contract tracing for all positive confirmed COVID-19 cases and all family members of the positive cases have been notified of the outbreak and have received all information currently available. "Other individuals who may work in the facility but have not been notified of a close contact of a COVID-19 positive individual should self-monitor for symptoms," Myers said. "Any individuals experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 should contact their primary care physician."
