PREP ROUNDUP: Norwalk golfers enter SBC tournament in first place

NORWALK — The stage is set for the Norwalk boys golf team. The Truckers improved to 10-2 in the SBC Lake Division with Tuesday's 165-180 win over visiting Bellevue at Eagle Creek golf course. Entering Thursday's SBC championships at the Fremont Country Club, the Truckers have a two-point lead over the Redmen (8-4) and Perkins (8-4). At the tournament, teams can earn two points for every team they finish above in the team standings. Norwalk is looking to win the league title for a second straight year. In Tuesday's win, Isaac School shot a 39 and Brayson Malson had a 40 to pace the Truckers. Ian Minor shot a 42, while both Eli Obringer and Caleb Sommers finished with 44s. Andrew Epperley rounded out the lineup with a 50. "Very proud of this group after graduating our top five players from a league championship team last year," Norwalk coach Wes Douglas said. "We are in a great spot to repeat on Thursday. Isaac has really stepped up the last two days here at Eagle Creek." GIRLS GOLF Norwalk seventh at SBC Lake tournament FREMONT — The Norwalk girls golf team placed seventh in the eight-team field on Tuesday at the Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division championships at the Fremont Country Club. Bellevue won the event with a 374, well ahead of runners-up Perkins (396). Norwalk shot a 445. Mylea Barber shot a 52 on the front nine and lowered that total to a 47 on the back nine to lead the Truckers with an 18-hole total of a 99. Noelle Jackson was next with a 46 and a 56 for a 102, while Analiese King had a 58 and a 50 for a 108. Rounding out the Norwalk lineup was Caitlin Harris (68-68—136), Mya Binkley (73-68—141) and Kennedy Leto (77-74—151). TENNIS Norwalk 4, Perkins 1 NORWALK — The Truckers improved to 18-1 overall and 11-0 in the SBC Lake Division with Tuesday's win over the visiting Pirates. Emma Trost lost in two sets to Diana Schoder at first singles (6-4, 6-1). Alexa Moore topped Bailey Garrett (6-2, 6-0) at second singles and Megan Miller beat Greta Gross at third singles (6-0, 6-2). At first doubles, the team of Erin Bleile and Lauren Metcalf beat Ashi Kota and Katelyn Showalter (6-1, 6-4). The second doubles tandem of Kennedy Friend and Dezi Hernandez beat Trinity Bibler and Noelle Showalter (6-0, 6-3). Norwalk visits Vermilion on Thursday to go for a 12-0 finish in the league. The SBC championships are back at Vermilion on Saturday. Willard 5, Calvert 0 TIFFIN — The Crimson Flashes improved to 13-4 overall and 11-1 in the SBC Bay Division with Tuesday's sweep over the host Senecas. At first singles, it was Kalli Sowers winning (6-1, 6-1) over Samantha Wagoner. Ella Schag swept (6-0, 6-0) at second singles over Caitlyn Boror, while Naomi Schag beat Ella Dysard (6-3, 6-0) at third singles. The first doubles team of Kayleigh Bowers and Summer Kennard defeated Hannah Welter and Emily Dell (6-0, 6-1), while the No. 2 team of Vivian Barnett and Macey Compton beat Victoria Ardner and Ella Siebert (6-3, 6-0). Port Clinton 3, Edison 2 PORT CLINTON — The Chargers fell in another tightly-contested match against the host Redskins on Tuesday. Port Clinton (13-3, 11-1) is tied with Willard with two league matches remaining for both teams. At first singles, Edison's Jayla Medina beat Alaina Dackerman (6-2, 6-3), while Alli Vogus topped Olivia Eickert at third singles (6-2, 6-0). At third singles, Torri Keyser lost in three close sets ( 4-6, 7-5, 7-5). At first doubles, Emily Moore and Emma Horchler fell to Arielle Montowski and Paige Reineck (6-1, 7-6 (4)). The No. 2 team of Lindsey Kowalski and Natalie Costello fell to Alyssa Mares and Reagan Ruthsatz (4-6, 6-1, 6-1). JUNIOR HIGHSt. Paul teams compete at CrestviewOLIVESBURG — The St. Paul junior high boys and girls teams competed on Sept. 19 in a Firelands Conference tri-meet at Crestview High School.The boys team scored 25 points and finished second by a point to host Crestview (24).Finishing for the junior high boys was Seth Ridge (third), Fletcher Ross (fifth), Nolan McCall (sixth), Luka Cuturic (12th), Owen Thimke (13th), Spencer Smith (14th), Niko Cuturic (16th) and Luke Marsh (20th).The girls team had the lowest score among the three teams with 26 points. Scarlett Ross won the race, while Adele Dowdell was third. Grace Kluding was sixth, followed by Isabel Gross (seventh), Charlotte Hosack (ninth), Jadyn Smith (12th), Audrey Sanders (14th) and Quinn Hoag (18th).The Flyers will be back in action this weekend at Western Reserve.
