PREP ROUNDUP: Norwalk boys golfers cruise to home SBC win

NORWALK — The Norwalk boys golf team stayed in first place with a 157-181 win over Tiffin Columbian on Wednesday at Eagle Creek golf course. The Truckers (9-2 SBC Lake) shot a season low 157 and were led by Brayson Malson for the second time this week, as he shot a 37. He was closely followed by Ian Minor (38), Eli Obringer (40) and Isaac Scheel (42). Norwalk remains in a first-place tie with Bellevue and will travel to the Fremont Country Club on Saturday for the 18-hole NWOCSA tournament before hosting Vermilion on Monday and Bellevue on Tuesday in a key league matchup. Reserve 183 HURON TWP. — The Roughriders were edged out by the visiting Wildcats and suffered their first Firelands Conference loss of the season Wednesday afternoon at Thunderbird Hills North golf course. New London (4-4 FC) had four players shoot in the 40s to pick up the win. Carter Eibel shot a 42, followed by Marcus Mayhorn (44), Cole Kropka (46) and Dax Amburgy (49). Jacob Shriver added a 50 and Tyler Twining shot a 59. For Western (7-2, 7-1 FC), Matthew Jarrett shot a 37 and John Skrada added a 40. Also for Western, Ethan Tucker fired a 52, Jacob Sergent and Breck Kinney had 54s, and Corbin Studd shot a 59. St. Paul 192, Plymouth 192 SHELBY — The Flyers won on a fifth-score tiebreaker over the host Big Red on Wednesday at Woody Ridge golf course. Jackson Cook shot a 46, Sam Scavuzzo a 47 and Caleb Schwan a 48 for the Flyers, who have won four straight matches. Dan Schwan then had a 51, and Logan Amato's 56 was four strokes better than the Big Red's fifth score to give St. Paul the win. Tom Gocsik also carded a 57 for St. Paul (6-4, 5-3), which is at Western Reserve on Thursday. GIRLS SOCCER Norwalk 3, Perkins 0 NORWALK — The Truckers are 8-0-1 overall after Wednesday's SBC Lake Division shutout over the visiting Pirates at Contractors Stadium. Norwalk is 4-0 in the league and now has a 27-0-1 record as members of the Sandusky Bay Conference since 2017. In Monday's win, Nyah Daniels scored all three goals for the Truckers, with Joscey Thomas adding an assists. Norwalk is off until next Monday when it hosts Sandusky. JUNIOR HIGH Norwalk 2, Vermilion 0 NORWALK — The seventh-grade Norwalk Middle School volleyball team improved to 3-6 overall following Wednesday's win over Vermilion. Norwalk won by scores of 25-17 and 25-18. Katelyn Chapin served nine points and five aces, and Delaney Illuzzi served eight points with five aces. Autumn Cross finished as a 100 percent server. Also for Norwalk, Brynn Prack had three assists — all to Illuzzi for three kills. Abby Upton led the defense with two digs. Norwalk entertains Bellevue next Monday.
