Norwalk tennis improves to 10-0

CLYDE — The Norwalk girls tennis team reached 10 wins with Thursday's 4-1 win over the host Fliers in an SBC Lake Division match. Norwalk is 4-0 in the SBC and 10-0 overall, and will compete Saturday at the Port Clinton doubles tournament. In the win on Thursday, Alexa Moore defeated Klara Miller at second singles (6-4, 6-3) and Megan Miller beat Gabby Castillo at No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-0). At first singles, Clyde's Emma Strudthoff beat Emma Trost (6-3, 6-4). At first doubles, Erin Bleile and Lauren Metcalf defeated Averie Fritz and Kristen Harrah (6-2, 1-6, 6-4). Kennedy Friend and Carley Nickoli beat Veronica Mestrey and Becca Clapp at second doubles (6-2, 6-0). Willard 5, Port Clinton 0 PORT CLINTON — The Crimson Flashes won several tough sets en route to a sweep over host Port Clinton on Thursday in SBC Bay Division action. Kallie Sowers won in three over Alaina Dackerman at first singles for Willard (6-3, 4-0), At second singles, Ella Schag defeated Hannah Cross (6-3, 6-4) and Macey Compton beat Olivia Eickert at third singles (6-4, 6-3). The No. 1 doubles team of Kayleigh Bowers and Summer Kennard beat Paige Reineck and Ariele Montowski (6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-2). The second doubles tandem of Vivian Barnett and Naomi Schag beat Alyssa Mares and Reagan Ruthsatz (7-6 (4), 6-3). Edison 5, St. Mary C.C. 0 SANDUSKY — The Chargers improved to 6-2 overall (3-1 Bay) with Thursday's sweep over the Panthers at Battery Park. Edison dropped just one game across the three singles positions, and just four games overall. Jayla Medina swept Hailey Bahnsen (6-0, 6-0) at first singles, as did Alli Vogus over Kate Milke at third singles (6-0, 6-0). Torri Keyser then defeated Madison Shenigo at No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-1). At first doubles, Lindsey Kowalski and Emily Moore defeated Kai Powell and Mena London (6-1, 6-0). Emma Horschler and McKenna Shaffoe teamed up at second doubles to beat Jayce Killian and Alizabeth Walton (6-0, 6-2). GIRLS GOLF Perkins 197, Norwalk 259 OXFORD TWP. — The Truckers dropped an SBC Lake road match on Thursday to the host Pirates. Noelle Jackson led Norwalk with a 52, followed by Mylea Barber (55), Mya Binkley (79) and Kennedy Leto (73). BOYS GOLF Willard 181, Huron 191 WILLARD — The Crimson Flashes won Thursday's SBC Bay Division matchup over the Tigers at the Willard Golf Club. Trey Mock and Dylan Thompson both led the Flashes with a pair of 43s, followed by Max Dawson (47) and Micah Dawson (48). BOYS SOCCER Norwalk 6, Mansfield Madison 1 NORWALK — The Truckers improved to 2-1 with Thursday's non-league win over visiting Mansfield Madison at Contractors Stadium at the Warren C. Whitney Complex. Five different players found the back of the net for Norwalk, led by Jose Escebedo with two. Also scoring was Cam Shoop, Will Gehlhausen, Gavin Shutt and Spencer Colahan. Adding assists were Braedyn Demuth, Erik Rangle-Negrete, Gehlhausen and Escebedo. Ethan Tanzillo made nine saves at goalkeeper for Norwalk, which visits Sandusky on Monday. Edison 2, Vermilion 1 VERMILION — The Chargers scored with less than two minutes left in the match to pick up the victory over the Sailors Thursday night. No further information was provided.
