Two hospitalized in crash involving Lake Erie Construction vehicle

TOLEDO — Two men were taken to Cleveland Metro Hospital Wednesday morning after a Lake Erie Construction vehicle ran a stop sign and struck a pickup truck in Wooster. The crash occurred at the intersection of Wayne County Road 157 and Wayne County Road 38, according to Wooster State Patrol Lt. Stephanie Norman. The accident occurred about 6:30 a.m. Dakota Hanlon of Monroeville was driving the construction vehicle south on Wayne County Road 157. Clarence Chaney of Wooster, was driving his pickup truck East on Wayne County Road 38. Both men suffered "serious to life-threatening injuries," according to Norman. Lake Erie Construction Safety Director Ken Bleile said Hanlon was treated and released Wednesday. Norman said the construction vehicle struck Clancey's on its front left side before hitting a stop sign and rolling over. It stopped inches from a building. Clancey's vehicle ran off the right side of the road before stopping. "There was heavy damage of the front (of Clancey's vehicle)," Norman said. "The left front tire area was completely destroyed." Both drivers were taken to Wooster community hospital before being flown by helicopter to Cleveland Metro. Hanlon was on his way to replace a guard rail damaged by a crash that took place last weekend. Because he was life-flighted, the Wooster patrolmen did not speak to him. Bleile said he does not have much to add to the Patrol's report until he sees the accident report. "We've been trying to retrieve the report," Bleile said. "I don't have access to it until it's made public, and I don't think it's been made public."
