Changes at sheriff's department NORWALK — The doors to the interior lobby of the Huron County Sheriff's Office are now locked. The public will still be able to reach the dispatch center and corrections via an intercom and access the the kiosk to put money on inmate accounts (although it is safer to use the phone or internet options on the department's Facebook page). At present the department still will be processing CCW applications, but only one civilian will permitted in the lobby at a time. If your permit does not expire within the next 30 days you are encouraged not to come in. You do not need a CCW permit to purchase a weapon or have a weapon in your home. Sex offenders, arsonists and violent offenders who have a duty to register will still be required to report. Anyone showing signs of illness will be asked to leave. Treasurer's office to close Effective Monday, the Huron County Treasurer's Office will be closed to the public until further notice. Anyone wishing to make real estate or mobile home tax payments are advised to do the following: Mail your payment to Huron County Treasurer 16 East Main St. Norwalk, Ohio 44857 Drop your payment in the secure night drop, located inside the front door of the office, to the right. It is accessible 24/7. Log on to the Huron County Auditor's website: huroncountyauditor.org and click on the link that reads:" Pay Real Estate and Mobile Home Taxes here". You will be re-routed to the Lexis Nexis Vital Check Landing Page. You will be guided through the payment instructions. Huron County Board of DD adjusting services NORWALK — Effective immediately, and until further notice, the Huron County Board of Developmental Disabilities will be adjusting the way services are delivered to the people we support throughout the county. Its first priority during this ever-changing situation with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is the health and safety of individuals with disabilities, their families, staff and the residents of the communities. For that reason, the following adjustments have been made: • All Service and Support Administrators (SSAs), Early Intervention/Early Childhood providers and service coordinators, and Help Me Grow home visitors will be working remotely from home. Administrative staff will also be working remotely to support staff and department operations. • Essential administrative staff will be working at the board office Monday through Friday during normal business hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to maintain essential agency operations. No visitors will be admitted to the building. • Staff members continue to practice social distancing, proper handwashing and preventative measures as recommended by the Ohio Department of Health, the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities and local officials. The Huron County Board of Developmental Disabilities understands that the people it supports and their families are always in need of our services, and will do everything it can to ensure that we continue to be available to and present for them by making these adjustments. Housing authority will close Monday NORWALK — The Huron Metropolitan Housing Authority will close its doors on Monday. No employees will be on hand to answer calls. The housing authority will update its Facebook site daily. The shutdown will last until further notice. Clothing bank is closed NORWALK — The Norwalk Area Clothing Bank is closed at least through April 4. The organization will extend the closure if needed. Do not drop off any donations until it re-opens. Do not place items in the drop box as they cannot be processed and distributed.
