Community resources available during pandemic

NORWALK — The Huron County Department of Job and Family Services released a list of community resources available during the COVID-19 pandemic. For utility assistance, the department provides the Prevention, Retention and Contingency program, which can help with any utility disconnect if the biller is not suspending disconnections. To have an application mailed to you, call 419-668-8126. AEP, Ohio Edison and Firelands Electic have all temporarily suspended disconnections until further notice. Columbia Gas has suspended disconnections until May 1. For assistance with rent, the Department of Jobs and Family Services can provide help to families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Applications can be mailed to you by calling 419-668-8126. For information on shelters, meals and food pantries, contact Norwalk Area United Fund at 419-668-0269. The Salvation Army, besides the Willard location, is running a food pantry every Tuesday and Thursday, including packaged hot meals. Charter Communications is offering free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi access for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who do not already have a Spectrum subscription. Charter will also partner with school districts to ensure local communities are aware of these tools to help students learn remotely. Charter will continue to offer Spectrum Internet Assist, high-speed broadband program to eligible low-income households delivering speeds of 30 Mbps. Charter will be opening Wi-Fi hotspots across their footprint for public use, with no data caps or hidden fees.
