Woman dies in two-vehicle accident

MARGARETTA TOWNSHIP — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle serious injury crash that occurred on early Monday on Ohio 101 at the intersection of Ohio 2 in Margaretta Township and claimed the life of a Sandusky woman. Storm Lanier, 18, died Tuesday as a result of her injuries sustained in the crash. Jocelyn L. Cherry, 19, of Sandusky, was operating a 2012 Hyundai Elantra. Cherry sustained incapacitating injuries and was transported to Cleveland Metro Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. It is unknown if she was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash. Lanier, a passenger in Cherry's car, also sustained incapacitating injuries and was also transported to Cleveland Metro in Cleveland, Ohio. It is unknown if Lanier was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash. Timothy A. Schwanger, 62, of Sandusky, was operating a 2019 Dodge Ram. Schwanger sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was transported to Firelands Hospital in Sandusky. Cherry was southbound on Ohio 101 while Lanier was traveling eastbound on the Ohio 2 deceleration ramp to Ohio 101. Lanier was attempting to make a left hand turn onto Ohio 101. Cherry failed to stop at a red light and struck Lanier's car on the driver side. Alcohol and/or drug use are believed to be a factor at this time. The crash remains under investigation.
