Norwalk gets two hat tricks in rout

NORWALK — Few things are better than a hat trick. But for the Norwalk boys' soccer team on Monday, two was still better than one. Both Conor Nickle and Noah Jameson netted a hat trick with three goals each as the Truckers improved to 3-2 overall with a 9-0 win over Oak Harbor at Contractors Stadium. Also scoring for the Truckers were Roman Snyder, Jack Pittenger, and Cruz Santiago. The quartet of Kingston Gonzales, Johan Ramos, Aiden Kahn, and Pittenger each had one assist. In the net, Miquel Jacobo had four saves to earn his second shutout of the season. Norwalk is off until Saturday when it visits Ontario (0-2-2) in another non-league match. GIRLS SOCCER Oak Harbor 4,Norwalk 0 NORWALK — The visiting Rockets scored a pair of goals in each half of Monday's non-league win over the Truckers at Contractors Stadium. In the loss, goalkeeper Becca Farmer made eight saves for Norwalk, which fell to 2-3 overall ahead of Wednesday's non-league match against another strong opponent in Woodmore (2-0). VOLLEYBALL Willard 3, Hopewell 1 BASCOM — The Crimson Flashes improved to 3-0 overall and in the Northern 10 Conference with Monday's road win over the host Chieftains. Willard posted scores of 25-19, 23-25, 25-20, and 25-15. The Flashes were led at the net by Leah Weiss with 18 kills, and she also had 15 digs and served 15 for 16 with eight points and three aces. Mya Stephens added 10 kills, eight digs, and six assists, while Athelia Atkins added seven kills. Also for Willard, Alexis Rettig was 21 for 22 serving with 14 points and four aces, and led the defense with 18 digs. Emelia Tallman set 31 assists and was 16 for 18 serving with 10 points. Edyn Carr was 15 for 15 with eight points and an ace and also had seven digs. Lauren Vogel also served 11 for 13 with six points and two aces. "We switched some things around tonight to try to get a few different looks, and the girls adjusted well," Willard head coach Ashley Bond said. "It was good to see them bounce back from being up 23-20 in the second set, where we didn't finish. "We are still trying to figure out who to put where to make our team fit together the best, and it will be a constant work in progress." Willard's challenging league week continues with a trip to Colonel Crawford on Tuesday and Buckeye Central at home on Thursday. It closes the week with a short trip to Shelby on Saturday in non-league play. BOYS GOLF N. London 178,St. Paul 193 NORWALK — The Wildcats picked up the road Firelands Conference win on Monday to improve to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the league. Kade Detterman led NL with a 46, while Mario Maple had a 48 and Logan Sword added a 49. Tate Mitchell and Nathan Willis each shot a 50, while Easton Ball rounded out the lineup with a 53. New London will travel to Thunderbird North on Wednesday to play Western Reserve. Edison secondat Bay shootout HURON — Bellevue shot a 155 at Thunderbird South to win a Northern Ohio Conference Bay Division shootout. Edison finished second at 170. Huron (177) was third, and Port Clinton (195) finished fourth. Edison's Maxim Johnson finished with a 42 to lead the Chargers. GIRLS GOLF Edison seventh at Avon tourney OBERLIN — Edison placed seventh at the 17-team Avon Rush Family Honorary Golf Tournament at the Oberlin Golf Club, finishing behind five Division I teams. Edison shot a team score of 388. Rocky River Magnificat was first with a 301, while Brunswick tallied a 325 for second. Annabelle Seville led the Chargers with an 82, which tied for 10th overall. She was followed in the team scoring by Averi Wolf (97), Leah Sharp (104), and Ella Rogers (105). Norwalk finished in 14th place, with Adyson Lepley finishing with a 92. Emma Holbrook shot a 97, while Catherine Beamer (104) and Jemma Camp (134) rounded out the scoring. The Truckers host their NOC shootout at Eagle Creek at 12 p.m. Thursday. TENNIS Willard 4,Madison 1 WILLARD — The Crimson Flashes improved to 7-2 overall with Monday's non-league win over the Rams. Phebe Schag defeated Kylie Carroll at first singles (6-2, 6-1), while Evey Martinus topped Isabel Rush at second singles (6-2, 6-4). Third singles saw Jillian Strong beat Amerah Hopin (6-2, 6-1). Willard's lone loss came at first doubles, as Bella DeLara and Lillian Fox fell to Lyla Walker and Destin Conrad (6-4, 6-2). The second doubles team of Marina Ramos and Addy Martinus beat Makenzie Wynn and Victoria Neal (4-6, 6-2, 6-3). Vermillion 5, Edison 0 MILAN — The Chargers were swept by the Sailors in NOC Bay competition on Monday at Edison Park. Scarlett Bennett fell at first singles to Lauren Streby (6-3, 6-3), while Katie O'Hara lost (6-0, 6-2) to Megan Wade at second singles. Vermilion had a walkover win at third singles. In doubles, Annalee Baehr and Audree Martin lost to Colleen Traut and Lily Fisher (6-1, 6-0). The second doubles team of Taylor Ellis and Aubrey Morgan lost to Alexa Guitar and Jilly Leimbach (6-0, 6-0).
