Former detective arrested

A former Sandusky County sheriff's detective was arrested late today after a grand jury indicted him on felony tampering, dereliction and obstruction charges this morning. In all, Sean P. O'Connell faces three felony counts of tampering with evidence, a falsification charge, a coercion charge, dereliction of duty and obstruction charges, all related to how he conducted an investigation into the April 2015 homicide death of Heather Bogle. O'Connell was arrested by U.S. Marshal Service at about 6 p.m. Friday. He was initially taken to the Sandusky County jail but was in the process of being transferred to the Erie County jail this evening. Former Sandusky County sheriff's Detective Sean O'Connell was working for the Jet Express this past summer. Bogle, 28, was reported missing by family members after she failed to pick up her daughter from school. Her body was discovered the next day — April 10, 2015 — in the trunk of her car parked outside a Clyde apartment building. She'd been shot and was badly beaten.
