Historic aircraft flying over 4th parade

NORWALK — Norwalk's Fourth of July parade this Saturday is set to be a massive tribute to the nation as it celebrates its 250th anniversary. A few days ahead of the event, Ron Kelbley from the Norwalk Lions — who are helping organize the festivities — provided some updates on what people can expect. They include: Historic bomber flyover Weather permitting, a World War II aircraft will fly over the parade, which will take place along East Main Street. The craft, a Grumman TBM Avenger torpedo bomber, will be seen in the sky around the start time of the parade, 10:30 a.m. The bomber comes from the Lake Erie Warbirds and resides at the Liberty Aviation Museum in Port Clinton. It's the same model aircraft that former U.S. President George H.W. Bush flew during the war. The flight is being organized by Brian Safran and his organization, Flight of the Flags. According to the group's website, the organization hosts several flights each year to honor deceased veterans and first responders. Parade judging categories announced The VFW Women's Auxiliary group will judge entries in the parade. They can be found at tables on a stage in front of the Huron County Courthouse. There will be 11 categories: • Best Commercial Float • Best Civic Float • Best Marching Unit • Best Automobile • Most Unusual Entry • Best Drill Team Unit • Best Clown • Best Fire Company ("We have seven entries this year," Kelbley said.) • Best Truck Unit • Best Business Float • Best Youth Float Come see classic vehicles "We have a number of classic cars entered in the parade this year," Kelbley said. Vehicles will include: • A baby blue 1952/53 GMC pickup • A red 1993 Mustang GT convertible • A red 1971 Olds Cutlass 422 with 455 HP convertible • A black 2000 Plymouth Prowler • A black 2003 Chevrolet Super Sport Roadster Additionally, the Norwalk Elks Club — celebrating its 125th anniversary this year — will have five entries in the parade: • A red 2002 Corvette • A 1966 Chevy C-10 pickup • A 1966 Buick Skylark • A 2020 Corvette C-8 Stingray • A 2016 Corvette
