Public invited to mayors' talk

NORWALK — Leadership Huron County invites the public and area news media to attend a Huron County Mayoral Roundtable, Rooted in the Reserve, from 2-4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 9 at the Huron County Senior Enrichment Center, 325 Shady Lane, Norwalk. Two centuries ago, families who lost everything in the Revolutionary War journeyed to the frontier in our corner of the Western Reserve to clear the forests, cultivate the land and lay the foundations of our communities. Today, we face a new set of frontiers: balancing the preservation of our rural heritage with the demands of modern infrastructure; managing critical economic shifts; revitalizing our small communities; and finding ways to keep our young people rooted right here in Huron County. Although our town and township borders divide us on a map, our shared geography and history unite us in purpose, as do our shared visions for the future. To discuss some of these major issues, mayors from every Huron County community have been invited to participate in a roundtable that will provide the opportunity for collaboration and engagement with residents of the county. Members of the 2026 Huron County Leadership class will moderate the discussion. The format for the discussion will be as follows: • Block #1 — Land, Energy and Infrastructure: How huge external developments are changing the face of Huron County's rural townships • Block #2 — Municipal Survival & The Local Wallet (The Fiscal Reality): Navigating the modern economic threats to local government and small businesses • Block #3 — Retaining Our Roots (The Next Generation): Keeping our communities alive by keeping our young people home • Block #4 — Our Vision for the Future: Where do we go from here? The public is encouraged to attend. The event is free of charge.
