Emergency drills happening Tues., Wed. in Norwalk

NORWALK — Residents might see an influx of first responders in the city Tuesday and Wednesday, but local officials said it's for a planned emergency training. The training is happening at Norwalk High School and the Fisher-Titus Medical Center emergency department and is being hosted by Fisher-Titus and North Central EMS, according to a news release from the hospital. The hospital hosts at least one of these large-scale exercises annually to help first responders prepare for real-life crises. "Drills are essential for our first responders," said Lynn Kochheiser, director of EMS and emergency management at Fisher-Titus. "They help keep our skills sharp and stress the importance of keeping our composure so we can be prepared if we have to respond to an actual large-scale emergency." The hospital said its emergency department will remain open during the training events, and residents should not be alarmed by the first responder activity.
