Clay shoots past Norwalk in opener

NORWALK — Visiting Oregon Clay made six 3-pointers in the opening quarter and never looked back in Wednesday's 64-25 win over host Norwalk in the season opener for both teams on Nov. 26 at Norwalk High School. The Eagles got four 3s in the first quarter from Antwoine Mister, who finished with a game-high 20 points. Clay led 26-10 after one quarter, then blitzed the Truckers with a 24-4 scoring edge in the second quarter to break the game open. The Truckers got 10 of their 25 points from Xavier Saunders in the loss. Nolan Jones added six points for Norwalk, which is off until Dec. 4 when it travels to Edison. The boys lost to SMCC (79-10), to P.C. (68-10), and by a 55-16 score to Ottawa Hills. Placing second for the St. Paul girls included Kennadie Frazee in the 100-yard butterfly (1:13.85) and the 200 IM (2:35.78); Elaina Coriell (1:03.34) in the 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke (1:10.01) Finishing third was Sarah Gocsik in the 100 breaststroke (1:29.35) and the 100 free (1:04.78); Allison Talbot in the 200 free (2:34.36) and the 500 free (7:02.61); and Jocelyn Welter (1:15.45) in the 100 backstroke. In relays, the 200 free of Kegney Stoll, Talbot, Elsie Shumaker and Sydney Wurzel placed third (2:09.03), as did the 400 free team of Frazee, Coriell, Welter and Gocsik in 4:23.73. Connor Roll led the boys team in fourth place in the 100 free (1:04.51) and fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:17.46). The 200 free relay of Wyatt Shumway, Orrin Kusser, Roll and Momen Mefteh also took fifth in 2:31.73. St. Paul will host Willard next Wednesday.
