Dave's Food Mart continues tradition

By JOE CENTERS • Nov 13, 2019 at 10:00 PM

The tradition continues.

Dave’s Food Mart received the Tradition of Service Award Wednesday morning at the 27th annual Norwalk Catholic School Business & Professional Breakfast at the St. Paul Parish Center.

Dave’s Foodmart joins 26 other award winners, beginning with the first, Maple City Ice Co., in 1993-94.

The event is held each year to honor a local business partner and also share everything the school and its students are doing.

First-year director of education Darren Conley said he has been welcomed with open arms this year, noting it is the fifth different stop in his teaching career.

“This is the first place I’ve ever been that feels like a family,” Conley said.

First-year NCS president and principal of St. Paul Jr. High and St. Paul High School Martin Linder said leadership is the keyword this year.

“He talked about going to his own 1999 SPH class reunion and the Hall of Fame banquet earlier this year and all of the good things he has seen. Many of my classmates have become leaders in their field,” Linder said. “I saw a lot of the people on the 1969 state championship team and all of the leaders.

“We grow leaders but we don’t do it alone. That’s a point of pride here at Norwalk Catholic — growing leaders together. All of you are a big part of that with your support.”

Sue Lesch, the chief advancement officer, said the school could not do it alone.

“Everyone of you is important to our mission,” Lesch said. “Hear God’s voice to make the right choice.”
