Four area volleyball teams advance to districts

NORWALK — The Norwalk volleyball team coasted by visiting Kenton on Thursday in a Division II sectional championship match, setting up a rubber matchup vs. SBC Lake Division foe Tiffin Columbian next week.

Norwalk (15-9) defeated Kenton by scores of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-6 to advance to the district semifinal matchup against the Tornadoes (16-7) at 5:30 p.m. on Monday at Seneca East. The away team won both matches in the regular season. Columbian won in five games at Norwalk on Aug. 27, while it was a four-game win for Norwalk in Tiffin on Sept. 19.

In Thursday’s win, Carly Bilton finished with 11 kills on 18-of-20 hitting, while Delaney Thomas and Claire Kelley each had nine and Mya Neuberger added eight.

Lindsey Koenig served 20 for 20 with 15 points and two aces, while Elyse Balduff was 17 for 18 with 12 points and two aces. Neuberger added 10 points on 13-of-13 serving. Olivia Ward was 68-of-68 setting with 36 assists, while Koenig led the defense with 13 digs.

 

Bellevue 3, Shelby 0

BELLEVUE — The Bellevue Lady Red defeated Shelby in three games Thursday in a Div. II sectional title match.

With the 25-12 25-10, 25-18 win, Bellevue (18-5) advanced to a district semifinal against Vermilion (15-9) Monday night at Seneca East.

Taylor Baxter led the Lady Red attack with 16 kills. Molly Bullion had 33 assists, and Kami Hay had 19 digs. Kailee Felder also chipped in with 16 service points.

 

DIVISION IV

Monroeville 3, New London 0

MONROEVILLE — The No. 5-ranked Eagles won a sectional title at home on Thursday over visiting New London at the Monroeville Athletic Complex.

The Eagles (22-1) won in three games, 25-10, 25-6 and 25-7. Monroeville will face Seneca East (18-6) at 5:30 p.m. on Willard in a Div. IV district semifinal. The Tigers won their first sectional title in 10 years with a win over Lucas.

Kelsie Palmer was 17 for 17 serving with five aces and had 12 kills at the net to pace Monroeville in Thursday's win. Kylee Brooks added eight kills and Graisyn Yoder added seven to go with six digs.

Also for Monroeville, Adrian Barman was 11 for 12 serving with three aces and 12 digs, while Camryn Hedrick had 36 assists. Lydia Landoll served 13 for 15 with three aces.

 

St. Paul 3, South Central 0

NORWALK — The No. 7-ranked Lady Flyers improved to 21-2 with Thursday's sweep over South Central in a sectional championship match.

St. Paul won by scores of 25-13, 25-6 and 25-12 to advance to Monday's 7 p.m. district semifinal vs. No. 12-ranked Buckeye Central (19-4).

Megan Hammersmith finished with 14 points and five aces, and had 11 kills at the net for St. Paul. Presley Stang finished with 12 points, four aces and 12 digs, while Kennedy Stang had eight points, six aces and 12 digs.

Also for the Lady Flyers, Brook Houck had nine kills, Holly Powers had eight and Dylian Knoll finished with 31 assists.

For the Trojans (9-15), Taylor Sexton had four kills and five assists, and Lorin Walcher added six points and eight digs. Kailee Beaver added nine digs.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Eastwood 8, Edison 0

PEMBERVILLE — The Chargers saw their season come to a close with Thursday's Division II sectional title loss to host Eastwood.

Edison ended the season with a record of 5-9-2.
