The Bellevue Society of the Arts Tween Theatre brings multiple shows to the Hirt Theater stage for the next two weekends.
The family-friendly show “James and the Giant Peach Jr.” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday.
The performance is a adaptation of the classic children’s novel by Roald Dahl’s about an young boy, five signing insects, and an adventure of a lifetime.
“The theme of the musical, to me, is ‘We all have family somewhere, sometimes you just have to search for them,’” musical director Cheryl Hansen Showalter said.
The visual elements of the play brings the script to life, Showalter said.
“We have seagulls, which fly; bugs, which turn into giant bug/humans; pickpockets and magic potions,” Showalter said. “I mean, the props are crazy for this show.”
Showalter encourages families to check out the musical because it’s full of action and up-beat fun.
“It is a musical, and the songs are upbeat and fun with lots of dancing,” Showalter said.
