Mark G. Schafer

MONCLOVA, OHIO — Mark G. Schafer, 56, formerly of Monroeville, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019, due to complications of cancer treatment.

He was born April 11, 1963, to Pete and Theresa (Bertsch) Schafer. Mark was a graduate of Monroeville High School. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Pontifical College Josephinum where he also completed three years of his Masters in Theology. Mark had also earned his Ohio Elementary Certification. Later on, Mark earned his LPN, RN, and also his Bachelors of Nursing. He was employed as a Registered Nurse for many years.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, Pete Schafer; and two infant brothers and a sister.

He is survived by his mother, Theresa Schafer; siblings; Br. Francis Schafer, Sharon (Douglas) Mastroianni, Pete (Jean) Schafer, Gerry (Jill) Schafer and Diane (Steve) Rosiar; 10 nieces and nephews; along with one great-niece and one great-nephew.

Mark had a deep love for his family and his devoted friends. He passionately served the elderly in the longterm care facility where he worked.

A private service officiated by the Rev. Ronald Schock will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monroeville with burial at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Monroeville St. Joseph School Endowment Fund in Mark’s memory.
