She was born Jan. 17, 1931, in Toledo, to Della and Fred Hirbe, but lived most of her life in Norwalk. She attended St. Paul Grade School, and was a 1949 graduate of St. Paul High School. In October 1951, she married James Mushett.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Beginning in 1966, Jim’s career took the couple and their children to Connecticut, Illinois, and Indiana. Mary viewed each move as an adventure, and made them fun for the entire family. Jim and Mary returned to Norwalk in 1979, where they enjoyed their life together in the country. What Mary loved most was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.
She is survived by her loving children, James W. (Mary A.) Mushett Jr. of Sneeds Ferry, N.C., Susan Kane of Chicago, Catherine (Frank) Moroni of River Forest, Ill., Cynthia (Michael) Spalding of South Bend, Ind., Thomas Hirbe Mushett of Kalamazoo, and Anne (Benjamin) Parker of Norwalk; 17 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and her brother, Donald Hirbe of Redding, Calif.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, James W. Mushett in 2010; sister-in-law, Joyce Hirbe in 2019; her “hero” and grandson, Joseph Moroni in 2019; and her son-in-law, Edward Kane in 2016.
