He was born June 9, 1944, in Burton, Ohio, to the late Simon P. and Fannie (Hostetler) Yoder.
Mel was the founder of Mel Yoder's Roofing where he retired in 2006. He was a former Clarksfield Township Trustee. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, telling jokes, spending time and picking on his family. He was very personable and enjoyed talking to anyone that he ever met.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Debra Kay (Joppeck) Yoder; his children, Fanny "J" (Brad) Yoder, Carol Ann Yoder, Daniel Wayne (Tricia) Yoder, Lilly Christine (Shannon) Harris, Angela Sue (Jason Roberts) Yoder, Joseph Simon (Megan) Yoder, David Melvin (Erika) Yoder, Hezekiah Jeremiah "the bullfrog" Yoder, Debbie Ann (Scott) Sprague, Pheneas Malachi (Allayna) Yoder, Micaiah Enoch (Danielle) Yoder; many beautiful, grandchildren, great-grandchildren; siblings, John (Anna) Yoder, Samuel (Amelia) Yoder, Andrew (Carol) Yoder, Simon (Bridget) Yoder Jr., Noah (Amanda) Yoder, Maryann Yoder, and Lydia (Doyle) Lee; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Including his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Melvin S. Yoder Jr.; and his children Benjamin Jacob and Julie Ann in infancy; his grandchildren, Wendell Collins and Amber (Blackert) Yoder; his brothers, David, Daniel, and Joseph Yoder; his sisters, Katie Gingerich and Susan Slabaugh and a sister in infancy.
Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Morman Funeral Home, 16 Cooper St., Wakeman, Ohio 44889. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 10, 2019 in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Clarksfield Cemetery.
