Russel P. Hetrick

FREMONT — Russel P. Hetrick, 72, passed away on August 6, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. 

He was born to the late Paul L. and Florence A. (Schlea) Hetrick on August 6, 1947, in Fremont, Ohio. Russ grew up in Fremont, Ohio and graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1965. Upon graduation, he attended school at Ohio University and received an Associates Degree from Stautzenberger Business College in architectural drafting and design. He then entered the U.S. Army in 1968 where he served in South Korea during the Vietnam War.

He and his wife Nancy moved to Norwalk in 1971 where he took the job as the Engineering Manager and Licensed Surveyor at the Huron County Engineers Office. He worked there until his retirement in August of 2000. He was also co-owner of Hetrick, Culver and Associates Surveying for many years and worked part-time for the Huron Soil & Water Conservation District.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, working on his 1968 Pontiac GTO, fishing, woodworking, and drag racing at Norwalk Raceway Park. Russ was an avid and accomplished bowler and a longtime member of the Friday Night Outcasts league at Kenilee Lanes in Norwalk. He was inducted into the Norwalk Bowlers Hall of Fame in 2003. Russ was a member of the V.F.W. Post 2743, Norwalk, Ohio and was also a member of the Pontiac-Oakland Club International.

Russ is survived by his loving wife of nearly 51 years, Nancy A. Hetrick of Norwalk, Ohio; by his son, Ryan P. Hetrick of Cleveland, Ohio; by his siblings, Rhonda (Rex) Damschroder of Fremont, Ohio and Tracy (Cheryl) Hetrick of Milton, Vermont, and by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stillborn brother, Steven P. Hetrick.

Friends may visit on Friday, August 16, 2019, from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. in Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St. Norwalk, Ohio 44857, Pastor Robert Carter will officiate.
