Last Call Trio to play Summer Concert Series

Last Call Trio will entertain audiences of all ages at Norwalk’s free summer concert this week.

The light jazz trio featuring a bass, flute and keyboard will play for the crowd at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Veterans Memorial Lake Park venue.

Comprised of string-bass player Kathleen Sigsworth, her sister flutist Dina Lukasko and keyboardist Tiina Ruffing, the group sets a laidback atmosphere for audiences of all ages. Since the three women are so close, even “adopting” Ruffing as their third sister, the intimacy of the performance comes across to the crowd.

Sigsworth said the group labels themselves as “background music.”

“This is our first time at the summer concert series — we’re really excited,” she said. “I think we’re going to be very appealing to the nursing home group that we’re told visits the concerts a lot too. I think we’ll have a very appealing repertoire to them.”

The Last Call Trio’s Facebook page said its music appeals to all ages. The women have been performing together since 2012.

“We play background music that transcends generations, spanning from classics from Frank Sinatra to adult contemporary songs of today. We play at wineries, restaurants, reunions, wedding receptions, fundraisers and many other private events,” according to the Facebook page.

Sigsworth said the trio also specializes in musical selections from old swing music up through 70s favorites such as the Eagles and James Taylor.

As a new feature at the Norwalk concert series this year, Wescott's Arctic Shaved Ice will bring its mobile cart to offer frozen treats to concertgoers.

Classic concert features return, including raffles and snacks. Listeners are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket and enjoy some free summertime fun.
