Matt Kean & Friends will entertain audiences of all ages at Norwalk’s free summer concert Wednesday night.

The event, which officially kicked off last week with a performance by Chu Dat Frawg, will take place from at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Veterans Memorial Lake Park venue.

Kean is a veteran to the musical series, having performed for several years in a row.

“Primary Colors,” released late last year, was Kean’s first album. Twelve of the 14 songs are original. Kean’s musical influences include David Bowie, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, BB King, Cream, Roger McGuinn (former frontman of The Byrds) and Deep Purple’s Ritchie Blackmore, which shines through in his performances.

Kean is proud of having done all the guitar work on “Primary Colors” himself and will display such talents Wednesday. He has played six-string, 12-string and bass guitars.

The musician described his music as unique, having its own flavor.

“I just call it rock — Matt Kean music,” said Kean, who covered tunes by Anne McCue and Billy Joe Shaver, songwriters he particularly admires, on his album.

As a new feature at the Norwalk concert series this year, Wescott's Arctic Shaved Ice will bring its mobile cart to offer frozen treats to concertgoers.

Classic concert features return, including raffles and snacks. Listeners are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket and enjoy some free summertime fun.
