The Marblehead station received the 2018 Operation Dry Water Top Agency Award, recognizing it for making a difference in recreational boating safety by raising awareness about the dangers of boating under the influence and by removing impaired operators from the nation’s waterways.
During Operation Dry Water, 17 station crew were deployed and six boating under the influence arrests were made.
David Turner, chief petty officer and executive officer for the Marblehead station, accepted the award. The station is located at 606 Prairie St., Lakeside Marblehead.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed volunteer component of the U.S. Coast Guard and supports it in nearly all of its service missions. The auxiliary was created by Congress in 1939.
